Pushing Past "I don't like it"

I oftentimes hear people say, "I don't like running" or "I don't like going to the gym". It occurs to me, while I certainly don't loath taking my dog outside on a beautiful day for a run, I also don't particularly "like" that part where we are trudging up hill on an 80 degree afternoon, pushing through every step as my feet expand to the edge of my shoes and my head starts to pound. Do I like this? Is that the right question? Or even, the right line of thinking? Similar to most of our important accomplishments "like" has nothing to do with it. It's hard, and the challenge, as I continue to conquer it, becomes more and more enjoyable simply because I begin to feel a sense of accomplishment and so that joy I feel is connected to something deeper. And in order to gain a deeper sense of our own worth, it's imperative to work everyday to achieve measurable, physical goals. Because when I get to the top of that hill with panting dog, we are both really HAPPY!
